In December, we had to wait a long time in the left turn lane, waiting to get into Zoo Lights at Brookfield Zoo. We spent that time telling Mark about all the animals we'd see at the zoo, including the polar bears (which we thought were a safe prediction for winter)."How many polar bears do they have at the zoo?" Mark asked. Five, Matt told him.
"What are their names?" Mark asked. Matt said: Carlton, Phil, Billy, Angela, and Wrench. (Why Wrench, only Matt knows.)
Since then, the Polar Bears have been a topic of constant conversation at our house. We even had to make up a song in which we say all of the polar bears' names.
Then, last week, we took Mark to Brookfield Zoo over spring break. "Do you think Wrench will be there today?" he asked in the car on the way. "What about Angela? Phil?"
If you look closely, you can see Phil behind Mark and Matt in the picture. Angela was also out that day. Wrench, Carlton, and Billy must have been sleeping inside. Either that or (in reality) Brookfield Zoo only has two polar bears.
