Still, Lynne and Matt did find out plenty about Baby during the visit to the doctor. The main thing, of course, is that everything is progressing just fine with Mom and Baby. Healthy and happy.
Baby was moving, squirming around, camera shy. Probably thinking, "Hey, did I give you the rights to publish my picture on a blog? Give me a break here, bub. I'm still cooking!"
Here's the other main point of information to come out of the visit: It appears that Baby Hanley will inherit one very unfortunate genetic trait from mom and dad. A giant head.
Lynne (melon head) and Matt (horse face/mount rushmore) have long teased each other that any offspring they produce will be top heavy. Now it's not a joke - it's science.
You see, at the first ultrasound, the doctor set the due date (Sept. 26) by measuring Baby head to rump. (More scientific term than noggin to butt, apparently.) The doctor checks how long Baby is and sets the date.
So, on Wednesday, the doctor re-checks the measurements to see if baby is going to arrive early. Baby Hanley was a bit ahead of schedule, meaning the due date could be a few days early.
So, they measured and based on the femur the due date was Sept. 23.
Based on the abdomen, Sept. 22.
Based on the head, Sept. 18.
Yikes. Hopefully, that means a giant brain, too.
Below are the latest ultrasound pictures. They probably took 25 or 30 pictures (it was like the baby red carpet) and they gave Lynne and Matt four of them, hoping for a profile of the baby's face.
The whole day was so unbelievably exciting. Some things were easy to spot. Matt saw Baby's spine, ribs, heart, hands and, of course, Baby's Freak Head.
And, at the same time, it was so confusing....

This is apparently the baby with head on the right. You can see Baby's eyes and hands and belly. Matt thinks the eyes make Baby look like Igor from Young Frankenstein. Hunchback Baby would be cool because you would always have an assistant for lab experiments.

Matt has no idea what this is a picture of, but Matt believes he sees the face of a wolf on the left side. Wolf Baby would be cool because it would mean cheap Halloween costumes and sweet ball handling skills.

This is baby's side profile. It looks like Baby Skeletor. There is nothing cool about that!

Don't be making fun of my grandchild!! I think he/she is beautiful!! Awesome baby -- awesome pictures!! I will start shopping for the large sized Cubs hat though - Or maybe I still have one of Matt's!
Mom H
Hey I think the second one is the profile of the baby, but it's head is turned to the side so it is not the best one. The third one is a face on shot!
Congrats
Karrie
